I recently read Barbra Brown Taylor’s An Altar in the World. She talks about the practice of pronouncing blessings. We have the potential to pronounce blessing over the people we come in contact with. Pronouncing blessing is a powerful way to encourage others. This is an ancient and biblical practice. We have the potential to bless family and friends with God’s love and favor.
First, we need to be reminded of God’s blessing over our own life. This experience of being blessed ourselves will then overflow in the relationships of our lives. The challenge is to become a blessing—the embodiment of God’s love and blessing. Every day we have opportunities to pronounce blessing to others. You never know the difference this could make in the life of others.
I challenge you today to open your eyes and heart and find someone to offer blessing over. It may be a child or spouse. It could be a friend at work or school. You will find someone that needs a word of blessing. Your words have power and life—use them to offer blessing.
Blessings to all of you,
