I love to hike. Give me a trail with a canopy of blue sky and green leaves with a stream running beside the path and you will hear no complaints from me. The sound of running water and birds singing have brought me to tears on the trail.
I consider nature as the most beautiful of sanctuaries. It is there that I can breathe deeply, slow down, and listen to my own life. I have also heard the whisper of Spirit along the trail, like the wind blowing through the trees.
Strangely enough, I have had two friends this year invite me to walk the pilgrimage called Camino De Santiago. This is known as a sacred pilgrimage of St James that ends in Spain. I have known of this famous trail for some time and have long wanted to walk the path. It’s not that I don’t want to go, I just can’t at the moment. I do love adventure and travel, especially if it involves hiking.
It’s not that I have never been on a pilgrimage-a sacred journey. Vickie and I have had the chance to walk the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem and have also walked the cobblestone path that make the road in ancient Ephesus in Turkey. Like I said, I love adventure, travel, and walking a trail.
This talk of pilgrimage reminds me of my life of faith. Across the years, I have experienced many adventures (and misadventures) on the way of trying to follow Christ. This journey has not been all sunshine and adventure. There have been plenty of challenges, missteps and misadventures.
I invite you to join me in this journey. Let’s walk together and along the way and perhaps we will learn more about what it means to try and follow Jesus. I will gladly tell you some of my adventures and misadventures along the way. Perhaps we will laugh and learn together on this path.
So, welcome to Walking the Way-Notes on the Adventures and Misadventures of a Journey of Faith. I hope to share insight, experiences, and encouragement with this blog. I also hope to inspire you to take your own journey with Christ and see it for the adventure it is.
As I think of my journey of faith, I am reminded of Maya Angelou’s book-Wouldn’t Take Nothing For My Journey Now. That describes how I feel about Walking the Way-wouldn’t take nothing for my journey now. I look forward to walking with you.
